About the Horses

14 min read
At this point in time I have only posted stock of horses and people that I personally know. Some of them will come up again and again when I get more photos of them while others might get sold on before I get the chance to photograph them again. Here you can read a little about each horse that I've posted on this account.

Sugar

Firstly, my most important man. This 13.1hh pony is a stallion who I have owned since he was a 4 year old and, if I'm not mistaken, he is currently 11. I have so many more photos of him but I wouldn't want to bore all of you by just posting photographs of this majestic coloured.
Personality wise, he is the most 'human' horse I've ever met and everyone who knows him would agree. You always know what he's thinking, be it good or bad, and I've gotten to know him to the point of knowing where he is going to step a few seconds before he does. Incredibly intelligent, sometimes aggressive and has way too many mood swings to be considered a normal horse.
He also has a half brother who looks similar to him though I haven't yet had the pleasure of taking photos of him. According to his owner, he is way more aggressive than Sugar though his movements are similar. I could write a book about Sugar so I won't go into too much detail and just say that he's the love of my life.

Passage

Passage 36 by aka-horse-stockPassage 4 by aka-horse-stock
I would like to begin by saying that his name is pronounced like the Dressage movement and not a path! Last year I was lucky enough to have been allowed to ride him for all of summer during which time I felt like we really got along. He is one of the most comfortable horses I've ridden and, while the grooms say he dislikes people, he followed me around like a puppy wherever I went. That made taking photos of him quite a pain at times because I couldn't get him to move away from me!
Passage seems like a very forgiving horse to me. I've seen him ridden by a good number of people and after throwing a little fit if the rider was obviously doing something wrong, he'd go back to behaving as usual soon afterwards, unlike some horses who stress for another 5 minutes for no reason *cough* Sugar *cough* . I might be wrong but I think he's in the older age range and my guess would be about 15 because of his behaviour and general outlook on everyday life.

Malish

This lovely boy's name translates from Russian as 'Baby' or 'Midget'. Because his owner and other kids struggled a little with this strong willed pony I was given him for 'boot-camp' for a summer. Best time I've ever had training a horse. There are many similarities between Sugar and Malish - he is a little smalled but has the same comfortable movement; both of them are so cheeky; both refuse to work if they're not in the mood; they are both quick learners. It came as a surprise to me when I was told that he bucked and refused small jumps. From my first ride with him it was obvious how much potential this little guy had. He absolutely nailed halt to canter/ canter to halt transitions in one lesson and was more than happy being ridden in a hackamore and was not at all headstrong.
This breed of horse is not known for jumping, instead they are used as hacking or working horses. Malish, however, decided to surprise everyone with his great technique over fences and went up to a meter in no time (honestly... we went from poles to a meter in a week). Unfortunately when I came to Georgia for my next holidays he had been sold on to someone else due to still being too much for his owner.

Carmen

So this beauty is my mom's 9 year old Trakehner mare who was imported from Russia alongside her sister while my mom was a novice rider. She was backed in Georgia and then taken for Show-jumping while my mom focused on building up her riding and doing flat work on her. I was a novice at the time as well though was sometimes allowed to hop on and do some jumping. She was then pushed too hard at some point and received an injury to her hip area which meant she had to be off work for about 6 months. After 'full recovery' I tried jumping her over a little cross pole one day with permission from my mom and the vet but she went lame again for a few weeks.
Since then she has changed riders and is now working on very basic dressage and I ride her whenever I'm at home. She has the most gentle personality and wouldn't hurt a fly. She is becoming more dynamic with her movement over time but it takes almost all the memory on my memory card to get a few decent photos of her. Hands down the least photogenic horse I know!

Spice

I don't remember having ever actually ridden this mare but, from what I know, she was loaned to my school to be used as a school horse. She's mainly done hunting and had a rather... interesting... jumping technique. This is as close as one can come to being a cow.
Spice didn't stay at the school for long because she went lame and the owners ended up taking her back home.

Java is the queen of sass. There is actually quite a lot to say about this beautiful mare but I think it's worth giving her owner a follow on Instagram and reading all of her posts. Her fail-friday videos give me life.

Geva

I owned this boy alongside Sugar for two years before moving to England to study. He is basically the absolute opposite of Sugar. He's now about 15 years old and going strong however and I can say this only because I know him one of the ugliest horses I've ever met. He's got a really strange forehead, he's lanky, has a horrible neck, can't do a normal trot and what in the world is working in an outline? His full history is known and he was quite the champion back in the day, flying around 1.40 courses with ease and I know that he's been able to jump 1.60. Personally, I've gotten up to 1.35 with him and he makes any jump seem easy. He's the type of horse who knows what he's doing and we joke about him probably being able to memorise a course after being shown it. Geva doesn't attract any attention to himself at competition if people don't know him.. Only after he places first or second do people realise what an awesome horse this boy is..
I'd just like to point out that before I worked with him for two years this annoying 15.2 stallion would spook and bolt after farting over a fence and then, a few weeks later, I rode him tackless and started jumping like that without a care in the world. But no, he's still a brainless thoroughbred who would probably crash into a fence post if he blinked for too long.. Love him to bits though!

Harold is such a cool and lovable horse! He can be a little headstrong, especially when jumping, and has a bad case of pony-strides but this 15.2 hh gelding is loved by all at the stables. His owner has kindly given me permission to post photos of her riding and, as she owns another wonderful Connemara pony who I've got some photos of, I'll be posting those as well! My best advice to you is to go give her a follow on instagram to see more of Harry and Paddy (her other pony).

Maté

Mate 32 by aka-horse-stock Mate 6 by aka-horse-stock
I had the honour of working with this lovely warmblood gelding for a few weeks in the summer and he took me over a 1.30m jump the second time I ever rode him which was pretty exciting! Don't know exactly how old he is but he's a very laid back horse and is very enjoyable to spend time with. Unfortunately I don't know a lot about his past but I know that he was a lovely show-jumper and is still jumping but also that he was very difficult to handle before he was gelded which is very hard to believe. He still threatens to kick or bite other stallions when they come near but most of the time Maté doesn't have a care in the world.

Muran

Muran 13 by aka-horse-stock Muran 34 by aka-horse-stock
Muran is a 4 or 5 year old Friesian stallion imported from Holland a year or two ago.
